Webinar “Can do better?” Have we found the best way to assess schools and how to select them? available to watch/ listen online.

It is almost 30 years since the advent of school league tables and Ofsted/ISI ratings are well known to most parents when assessing schools for their children. The Good Schools Guide includes entries on thousands of schools across the UK with reports by experienced reviewers. But do these three different tools give as full a picture as parents and students need to decide on which schools are doing well? Are perceptions and judgements sufficiently accurate and up to date? Do they consider not only the quality of teaching and learning but the impact the pupils make in their future careers? Are exam results overemphasised to the detriment of the contribution schools make to the wider communities they serve? Should “character education” and “value added” be included more widely as measures? This webinar, co-hosted by Keystone Tutors and Wild Search, brings together a distinguished panel of experienced educationalists to ask these questions and challenge some of the assumptions which are often made.

Chair: Edward Wild, Founder of Wild Search

Panel:

Anna Trethewey, Head of Strategy, Ofsted
Grace Moody-Stuart, Director, Good Schools Guide
Harriet Blomefield, Head of Education Consultancy, Keystone Tutors

New Wild Search Report on Portfolio Careers: Charting a New Chapter

As many people take stock of their careers and consider their next chapter, Wild Search is delighted to publish its latest report on Portfolio Careers.

Drawing on our extensive experience of advising on non executive and trustees appointments over more than a decade, the report is aimed at those who are either considering their first non executive role, or those who are seeking to combine a number of such roles following their executive career.

Based on a series of interviews with experienced chairs, non executive director and trustees, the report assesses the opportunities, challenges and benefits of “going plural” through appointments in businesses, charities, education and public and professional bodies. It seeks to provide helpful insights and experienced perspectives on how to identify, pursue and secure such roles.

Commenting on its publication, Edward Wild remarked: “2020 has been an unprecedented year of challenges for both organisations and individuals. Working from home and the opportunity to attend and host meetings online have become widespread and this may make a portfolio career more attractive. We hope that this report will be a valuable starting point for anyone who wants to join boards and build a portfolio. As all the contributors make clear, this is not something which happens quickly and time and patience are needed to secure the blend and balance of appointments needed to provide the greatest variety and stimulation. Paid and unpaid roles are usually combined and deciding how to balance them is an important consideration for many.”
