Senior Adviser, Higher Education
Dr Wendy Piatt is Wild Search’s Higher Education Senior Adviser. She has recently edited the Wild Research publication, Universities Challenged? Embedding Diversity, Empowering Institutions, which offers insight into the issues of diversity and inclusion within higher education – among staff as well as students.
Wendy was CEO and Director General of the Russell Group until 2017, having established the organisation as a company limited by guarantee in 2007. The Russell Group, whose members included 24 leading universities in the UK, became one of the most powerful and widely recognised representative bodies in the country during that period. She also served as an advisor to the Secretary of State for Business and Skills from 2009-10.
Her knowledge of Westminster and Whitehall was gained during her career as a senior civil servant in the Cabinet Office, Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit and Department for Education and Skills. She led on a broad range of public policy areas including: public service reform in health, education and transport; the UK’s digital strategy; local government policy, early years and social mobility.
She was Head of Education policy at the Institute for Public Policy Research until 2003 producing a range of publications on skills, further and higher education and social mobility which were widely acknowledged as having influenced Government policy.
She has undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Lincoln College, Oxford University and King’s College London where she was awarded a number of academic prizes.
Wendy combines her role at Wild Search with other advisory and NED roles including at University College London, the Snowden Trust and Lincoln College, University of Oxford.
